Dancing Charms For Budding Ballerinas

Are you scouring the web for a treat for a young dance fan? The perfect present may be one you least expect - charms.

I once ran a dance outlet and the biggest-selling item was a silver ballet shoe charm necklace. Mothers and children alike adored it!

That was a long while ago, before today's enthusiasm for charms like Pandora and Troll. So, considering a pointe shoe charm was so popular then, I can only guess how popular it would be now!

Now, you will find a lot of dancing charms and charm bracelets. There are pointe shoes (one shoe or two!), ballerinas in a range of poses, and tutus for ballet dancers. For flamenco lovers, there are flamenco fans and sometimes, flamenco dancers. I've seen ballroom dancing couples, tap dancers, and shoes for tap, tango, Irish and Scottish dancing.

There is less choice in Pandora charms, in other, compatible ranges. Pandora charms must be fat to allow for the central hole, so it's difficult to create a delicate charm to reflect the nature of dancing. I have seen some ballet shoe charms but they are too bulky for my taste!

You will find several Pandora charms engraved with the word 'dance' - and of course their Murano glass beads have fabulous swirling colors which seem to be dancing all by themselves!

You'll sometimes hear the saying "lucky" charms. I always understood that meant charms in the shape of a four leaf clover or a horseshoe. However I recently heard a charming story of a woman who got a charm bracelet for her birthday. It didn't include a horseshoe, but she soon noticed that when she was wearing her bracelet, things went well -and when she wasn't wearing it, things were more likely to go wrong. She didn't tell anyone else, but it ultimately became so obvious, even her son commented! Her explanation was that the bracelet was given by her family, and was chosen with love, so it was transfused with a special quality. Maybe that's a good reason to give a charm bracelet!

By the way, if you're having trouble deciding between the different charms - it may help to know that the pointe shoe pendant sold far more than similarly priced dancer necklaces.
